Cassie's school fundraiser
Dear Friends, Cassie is trying to raise money for her school and I for once am trying to help her (let's just say, I'm never very helpful with these things but am trying to be this time). So, it's a magazine subscription drive. The prices of your subscriptions are the same as if you purchased directly from the publisher, but Cassie's school keeps a large portion of your purchase!
Just follow the link below to purchase or renew your favorite magazines. Our combo of GOODHOUSEKEEPING AND REDBOOK, one year of each for only $20, is a great gift and a great value. You'll need Cassie's school code so print this email out now!
Thanks for helping,
Twyla (on Cassandra (Cassie :-)'s Behalf)
| School Code | TALMADGE | | Student First Name | Cassandra | | Student Last Name | Lawson |
P.S. Do you know someone else who may have an interest in assisting me and my school in our magazine fundraising project? If so, please forward this e-mail to them! THANKS!

News from the autocrats of September Crown‏
Permission given, and highly encouraged, to cross-post freely to all lists open to announcements in An Tir! Greetings Good People of An Tir, We bring great news regarding this week’s An Tir September Crown event. We have worked very hard to ensure the event is enjoyable for all. One thing we have been trying to improve is the issue of not being able to drive on the grass. I am happy to announce that today the park gave us approval to allow driving on the 20-foot wide grass roads we will create on site (primarily as drawn on our site map: http://www.terrapomaria.antir.sca.org/septembercrown/sitemap.html.
This means that the roads we create on the grass will enable you to get much closer to the camping spaces. We will also have volunteers available to assist you with unloading and loading as much as possible. However, it will be extremely important to not drive off of the marked roads or we may not be allowed to drive on those roads to pack up on Monday. So, please stay on the roads. The future of our good relationship with the State Park department depends upon your cooperation. Please help us maintain our good working relationship and our barony’s future use of this park. We have an incredible schedule of events in addition to the Crown Tournament, Kingdom Equestrian Championship, and Kingdom Protector Championship, including arts and sciences classes for both youth and adults, lots of marshal activities, a painted charter contest and more. Our full schedule can be found at: http://www.terrapomaria.antir.sca.org/septembercrown/schedule.html The weather report is around 70's with a chance of showers. At least it won't be 105 degrees, right? We're hoping for beautiful weather. In case it gets a bit chilly, firewood will be available at the Wood'n Things merchant booth along merchant's row for donations (proceeds will go to the Kingdom Travel Fund). There are also 31 fabulous merchants for your shopping pleasure. We could still use volunteers as many hands make light work for all. We know that the volunteers of An Tir give many hours without a thought to self; but because we want to say ‘thank you’ for your valuable service, we’ve prepared a number of small silk volunteer pennons (while they last) to be flown from poles, tent ropes or spears. If you volunteer even an hour of your time, you will receive a pennon at the completion of your hour. There will also be a volunteer raffle for a number of small prizes and a couple of major ones; collect one raffle ticket for each hour worked at the conclusion of your shift. So if you're interested in volunteering, please contact Countess Berengaria at jcstapleton@gmail.com We hope you travel safely to the event and we look forward to seeing you in just four short days. Yours in Service, Baroness Emma von Bern and HL Juliana van Aardenburg Autocrats for An Tir September Crown 2009

Welcome Galeran & Rhi & Gambeson First, please friend galeran and his awesome wife splagxna (Rhi) they are recent transplants to An Tir from Atlantia. They play instruments, sing, game, cook, and have many other awesome talents, not to mention are just great company.
Secondly, Galeran is in need of a gambeson as he has been working with Sir Ruland to get into heavy armor. He has been looking at one on line that is a 13th century gambeson. He would like to have it made locally rather than ordering it from Europe. Anyone interested in making it for about $200 or less? Here is the one he wants (he wouldn't want the integral mittens unless they could be slit so that he could get his hands out of them without taking off of all his gear). Just thought he might want to check locally first and he was up for it. He would want it out of linen, cotton filled, quality work of course and would need it done within a reasonable amount of time (like six or so weeks). Anyone interested?
The item is "Gambeson Type 1" at Matuls. http://www.matuls.pl/index.php?IDP=1&Lng=1&IDKategoria=4
Here's a closeup photo: http://www.matuls.pl/miniaturki_pic/pic_duze.php?IDPic=46&Lng=1&IDP=1
There's more info if one clicks on "details"
Now time for much needed sleep :-)

Had to say goodbye to Justice today Today was a difficult day. Justice, I'm sure not on purpose, accidently snapped at Cassie and got her in the face. The diabetes and old age has really been making him act out of his normal character. He's had other things occur and today just confirmed that it was time for us to put him down. Heath was in Portland with Vrin and Rosemary when the kids called me that it had happened. Cassie of course thought it was all her fault but now I think she understands that no matter what he shouldn't have done it. I got home and called the vet and they said they could have him in for an appointment in 40 minutes. In all my life I have never had a dog (that I know of) long enough that I had to put him down. He's no longer with us. We had him for ten years and loved him dearly. Today was a sad day. We will remember him forever.

Two days off to sew tents!!!
I'm so excited! The thread arrived yesterday. So, I'm taking today and tomorrow off to help the hubby get Rob and Tracy's tent done (marquee), then Ted and Rodneys (round), then Rosemary and Vrins (round), and lastly Bridget and Geoffrey's (dayshade). Here's to hoping we make lots of progress today. Woohoo for being home and doing something I enjoy. Here's a pick of our 20 ft round that we made in 2004 years ago.

I finally got my dream car! OK, so I found MY car last night on the net. I was so excited. Went into work today and called the dealership and they still had it for a great price! Then submitted my online application to my credit union and got approved. Of course then I couldn't focus at work because I had to go drive it. So, I called Ruland, who bless his heart left work at 12 and drove me to the dealer. I bought it!!! For once everything went right! Here is what I got... YEAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, just have to share, I'm so happy!

hosting a demo
Hi everyone! It's been too long! I've decided I really suck at keeping up on LJ. Well, lots of things are going on and everything is rather fabulous. I'm excited to say that this week I got approved to autocrat a demo for our Barony at the best location possible (Salem's Riverfront Park). It's going to be fabulous! We're going to keep it small, using primarily baronial members to pull it off. We truly believe that if we do that it will help us come together even more as a barony. Anyway, here's some info. If you have any ideas, suggestions, ect. Please share them! The barony is very excited and together on making this a success, but many of us have never put on a really strong demo so your advise is really going to help. We are creating four large trifold displays that will be placed on tables. These four trifolds will become a major part of the "Demo Kit" that the barony is putting together and we will continue to grow and develop it to help us be more effective at this and other demonstrations. The four trifolds at this time are planned to display (but we're open to suggestions!): -What is the SCA & History, Autocrating, Offices -Arts and Sciences in the SCA -Fighting Activities in the SCA (Heavy, Rapier, Archery, Thrown Weapons, Youth Armor) -Family and Community Focused (College of Pages, Camping, Indoor Feasts, etc.) We will also begin work to prepare materials for use in the live displays that will take place at the demo. Please share your ideas, we need them! At this point we plan to have the following live demo displays: -Fiber Arts -Scribal Arts -Beading Arts -Bardic Arts -Costuming Arts -Armoring Arts -Culinary Arts -Marshal Arts (Heavy, Rapier, Cut & Thrust, Youth Armor (unfortunately actually archery is not an option, wish it was)) We will also have a children's area with middle ages related activities and a picture booth for guests to get their picture taken in garb. Our vision for this demo is to have approximately 6-8 period pavilions shaped surrounding a tournament eric with pennants flying in the air to herald all of the pageantry and splendor of the middle ages. Beneath the pavilions guests will find artisans crafting their wares and explaining to passers by the art that they are learning to master, sharing their knowledge and inspiring interest in their craft. Fighters, both young and old, heavy and rapier, will take the field throughout the day demonstrating skill at arms and the finer points of chivalry and honor. Displays will be shared that explain the values of service, arts and sciences, history, and marshal skill. Voices will be sharing different experiences and teaching others about recreating the middle ages and songs may be heard that will make you feel you have stepped back in time. We have a team working on marketing the marketing materials and strategy to reach any potentially interested people. So, please share your thoughts, ideas, anything. Anything will be greatly appreciated!

Veteran's Day
Thank you to all of you who have served our country in the armed forces!!!
Here's a funny quote from my daughter Cassie: Yes, we have the day off because it's veterinarian's day. LOL
Of course, I am happy to say on further probing she knew the purpose of today's honoring those that have served our country, but boy was that funny!!!
